Who the F**k is Todd Quigley?

Not sure but he seems like a pretty switched on talented lad so we'll let the fact he shoots digital slide and just marvel at his industrious perspective of the harbour bridge instead. See more here on his blog aptly titled Todd Quigley's Blog! He is one talented photographer people...

some nice polaroids...

Found here on the world wide web!

brendan edward turner

Who is Brendan Edward Turner? Well I couldnt tell you. What I can tell you is he recently purchased a Holga and these are shots from his first roll. For someone who confesses they "dont know that much about film" he's managed to turn out some pretty magnificant photos...Check out the rest of his roll here on his blog. Enjoy the light leaks people...

When cross processing goes bad...

There is always a risk with cross processing... the trick is in the developing of the film not the photos... If you leave it to cook for too long your film will almost always come out red... That's what happened to the roll above and in the worst possible way to! I was so sad when i got the photos back as there were so many vibrant colors to be captured at our friends engagement party...

Serves me right for being impatient and just taking them to the Kodak store up the road instead of a skilled photography lab (there is only one in Sydney that I know of - Platinum imaging on Oxford street) Lesson learned, next time I will be making the two hour return trip to the city to get them developed properly!

In the mean time I'm tossing up whether to embrace the redness as a beautiful quirk or make them black and white and forget the whole sad and sorry incident ever took place...

Summer

Its approx 7 degrees right now which to put it bluntly is f**king freezing for Sydney... I grew up in the sweet humidity of the mid north coast man I'm not cut out for this shit... 2 cups of green tea down and I'm still cold...

The only thing warming me up is the memory of the summer just gone... My favorite shot from one of many days at the beach above. Shooting into the sun is always a risky undertaking... but the results are always worth it if the photo gods are on your side.

This photo was shot on my golden half camera using Fujichrome 100 speed slide film and cross processed in C-41. Want to learn more about cross processing? Click here.

A surf contest like no other...

OK this is how lazy I have been with my photography, last November, way back in 09, I posted these Polaroids of the TG invitation Surf classic... 6 months later and I've just gotten the roll of 35mm film I shot on my Pentax that day developed....

Perhaps lazy is not the right word, at least I'm out there shooting... slack with the follow up is probably more accurate... I can burn through a roll of film faster than you can say analogue, but the getting it developed part is where I fall down... Digital has left me with some bad habits (like forgetting I need to develop the photos at all)

Note to self: MUST DEVELOP FILM MORE OFTEN! Although Ive got to say its a lovely surprise... forgetting whats on a roll and waiting anxiously to get the photos back to see what moments in life you'd forgotten you captured... Some of my favorites from the TG4 above.

Wondering whats up with the pirates... find out the rest of the story here...

hey you wall space

I blogged last week about this project coming to a end... Once I get these photos back (216 photos taken by 96 perfect strangers) the possibilities when it comes to the presentation of these images, are endless... For a long while I was toying with the idea of doing something similar to the image above, but that was way back when I thought 8 cameras would take 5 weeks to travel around the world and id be able to do that 3 or 4 times in a year... 10 months later and I'm still waiting for the last of the originals to be posted back so the idea of sending out more to achieve the above just isn't realistic... unless of course I'm happy to wait 5 years to exhibit the aforementioned images... plus Its been done.. time to think outside of the proverbial square...

I don't want to see these images at their normal 5x7 size... this project was too big in ambition to exhibit on such a small scale... so now I'm thinking big... big canvases, vast white wall spaces, 1 massive installation, a rainbow of disposable lomo images suspended in time.... I wonder how it will all turn out....

I also need to figure out how to incorporate each cameras journey into the exhibition, almost 100 strangers came together to create this collection of images from around the globe and id be heart sick to think that gets lost in translation somewhere along the lines!

Seen any amazing photographic exhibitions lately? Id love some inspiration, post links below.

DEUS SURF SWAMP MEET

I took my golden half to the Deus Surf Swamp Meet a few months ago and took some happy snaps in the afternoon sunshine with my trusty camera...

What is Deus Surf Swamp Meet? Well let me tell you! Its a rad little vintage fair for those in the market for anything from retro surf and skateboards to old school bikes and records - Hell I even picked up a battery operated teddy bear that skates for $40 bucks!

Its a great place to pick up some unique clothing and art as well with stalls manned by the good people of Sugarmill Surf Emporium and Matt Johnson Photography respectively... Hope you enjoy the shots above!

Chores....

Every weekend I make a mental list of chores... unpack dishwasher, clean bedroom, scan photos... And I never seem to get around to the last one... or sometimes any of them!

So tonight I have turned the TV off and I've locked myself in the study with a pile of photos begging to be scanned! Ive developed so many roles lately from so many different cameras, most notably my trusty Pentax MZ-50 and my Golden Half camera (which has had the same roll of 36 in it since Xmas) that it seems a shame they are sitting in the study collecting dust.

Stay tuned people lots of cross processed goodness and golden half joy coming your way! Shot a roll of film lately? would love to see what you have been up to, post links below :)

CAT STEVENS....

I went and saw Cat Stevens in concert on Monday night, it was his first time in Australia in 36 years and he was a truly amazing musician and story teller who delivered a unforgettable, entertaining and funny show... I almost didn't make the show due to a minor disagreement with a Stanley Knife and a rather large loss of blood - but that's another story I'll tell another time, for now here is a picture to tie you over....

My next mision...

Now that Hey You Say Cheese travelling camera project is nearing its end Its time to look ahead to my new project aptly titled The Mision Mexico Photo Project. The lovely people at Mision Mexico have kindly accepted my proposal to teach analogue photography to the kids who reside in their orphanage... I'm so honored and excited about this project Its going to be a long time in the making but it will all be worth it in the end.

Over the next few months I'll be researching info for the text book/curriculum i plan on compiling for the kids so I'd love to do a big call out to the Take nothing but Polaroid community Ive got going here and ask if you come across any kid related photography things, whether it be a story on teaching methods or a camera for children, please copy and paste the links below... Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Step two is chase corporate sponsorship which I am currently doing. Stay tuned for more details.

The photo above was taken by these guys who bought Mision Mexico to the world. I highly recommend you check out their movie Somewhere Near Tapachula its a unique look at surf culture with in the mision mixed in with a whole lot of love not to mention some damn fine waves off the coast of Mexico!

Glistening Ordinary

I first stumbled across Jeff Robson on a blog called Grass is Greener his dreamy Polaroids caught my eye... He has featured a few times on this here blog and was even kind enough to do a 5 minutes with interview with us which you can read here.

He has just launched his new website Glistening Ordinary and oh my dear gosh, it is ANYTHING BUT ORDINARY... His photos are beautiful... a weak adjative I know... perhaps prepossessing and divine are best suited to describe this mans work! The grain and compositions are just mind blowingly wonderful!

Enough words from me please take the time to check out the beautiful photos above and here on his new site. Enjoy!

Milke has a new home...

Byron Bay local Tom Milledge - all round artist/photographer/nice guy has a new home for his creative endeavors... check aforementioned work out above and here.

Boycott the RIPCURL LOMO!

Undoubtedly the WORST commercial match up since Polaroid started fraternising with lady Gaga... Lomography head honchos... shame shame on you, i think we all thought you had more sense than that.... and what are you smiling at Polaroid... you are just as bad...

Surely someone in your marketing and strategic planning dept KNOWS that the reason we love you is you have little to do with corporate mainstream - and then you go sleep with the enemy... I don't know about you guys but I don't feel like taking photos today... This just makes me sad.

Would love to know what you all think! Would you buy one?

Mooks artspace

I currently have some portraits entered in the mooks art space comp - i tried to think a little left of field and deviate from the standard definition of a portrait when selecting my entries - I didn't shoot anything new for the comp as time is of the essence! Submissions close soon. Find out more here.

The shot above is titled friends with out faces and is shot on my Polaroid 600 Construction Job Pro...Check out more of my crazy arse camera collection here, here and here

Hey You Global Project nears its end

Well its been 10 long months since I posted 8 disposable lomo cameras around the world to 100 perfect strangers... a few got lost, most made it home and the yellow camera... the last of the weary travellers is on its way to the second last person on a list of 12, the lovely and talented Ryan Tatar... once he has taken his two photos and passed it onto the last person on the list it is officially on its way back to Australia! Woohoo!

Each camera was assigned a color and 12 strangers. Each random individual had to take two photos of something predominately that color before passing it on to the stranger below them on the list... the cameras were meant to take approx 5 weeks (3 days p/person) before returning home... but that was a plan for a perfect world and we don't live in a perfect world - hence my excitement that almost a year since the cameras were posted its almost time to get them all developed and see what beautiful treasures they hold... stay tuned people....

Oh and to find out more about this project and others ive been working on click here

I heart painting...

I started this last summer at a undisclosed beach cave... its a rather sizable enlargement of a pattern on a pair of my boyfriends vintage swimming trunks from the 60's. Wish it wasn't 9 degrees outside right now Id probably go down to the beach and finish it... oh how i long for some warmer weather...

This photo was taken on my Construction Job Pro 600 Polaroid - You can check out more of my work on my website kill all artists.

Nice Grain

A cool photo by Photographer Chris Bagot... Gotta love a color slide... I took these ones on my Pentax in Cambodia and Vietnam last year, and these ones last week on my VITO... When i see photos like Chris above I've gotta wonder why its next to impossible to buy film (and cameras) anymore... Don't the good people know what they are giving up? Pure unadulterated awesomeness that's what... cant get a grain like the above in photo shop (well you can but its not half as satisfying)

Check out more of chris handy work here on his blog.

Thomas Stockwell....

Road trip with kaycie from Thomas Stockwell on Vimeo.

Who the f**k is Thomas Stockwell I hear you ask? Well truth be known i dont know the dude from a bar of soap (where that expression came from I'll never know) I happened upon his site today... He has some pretty cool little projects up on his blog... Yeah Yeah its all filmed on digital... but the clip above was just such a fun yet oh so simple form of documentary style footage that i just had to share it with you all... what a great idea, next time im cruising back home to the good old mid north coast ill be sure to strap a camera to the dashboard to document the good times...

You can check out more of Sire Thomas handy work here.

Its not so easy being green...

Well its not! Its easy to cop out, its easy to be lazy... it takes thought and effort and deviation from your standard routine.... And a great place to start this deviation is here at Rapanui, a eco-fashion company from the Isle of Wight.

Hows about this.... Instead of driving down the local shops (Hello Co2 emissions) and purchasing a bleached cotton blend run of the mill T shirt (that is sure to be bought home in a plastic bag) log onto Rapanui where you can be kind to the world that we live (and save yourself some petrol money) buy purchasing a item of clothing made from natural organic fabrics in a Fairwear Foundation audited, wind powered factory. Impressed? I sure was... but wait till you read the next paragraph... it will blow your mind!

You see the super cool, undeniably rad, completely wonderful thing about Rapanui is they make it easier for people to see where clothing comes from and how it is made so you can make informed choices. They call it traceability.

Rapanui takes a total life cycle approach to their product's human, environmental and climatic impact, and address each aspect. This is not a clothing company ticking the green box. This is a company aiming to change the entire fashion industry. Rapanui uses Certified Organic fabrics, Fair-Trade labour and Renewable Energy.

I know I know! Again with the post that has nothing to do with photography, but if it wasn't for dudes like Rapanui founders Rob & Mart we wouldn't have much of a beautiful world to take photos of would we! To find out more click here

This photo is a little strange

We had just arrived in Hanoi from Singapore... It was 40 degrees plus and we had been wondering the streets of downtown Hanoi looking for our hotel for what seemed like forever... Once we arrived we were greeted but that famous vietnamese smile, lead up the narrowest staircase in all of Asia, squeezing our backpacks through ancient walls and into a tiny room to settle in for the evening... and boy did we settle in, after our day in transit there was nothing to do but take off the majority of our clothes... grab a beer and casually recline in front of the fan... metally preparing for the day of exploring we had ahead of us...

This may not be a amazing landscape from Halong bay or a atmospheric market shot from Saigon but every time i look at it it reminds me of what travel is all about... the journey - not to mention the sweet relief of getting to your chosen destination...

Sea tribes

I never get sick of pouring over Ryan Tatars work... Amongst various exhibitions and trips he is constantly contributing to a little ongoing project of his called sea tribes which aims to, in Ryan's words "document the individuals, landscapes, and curious activities of small pods of surfers and seamen along varied coastlines while exploring an interesting fragmented, yet collective, subculture of wave sliders scattered around the globe"

Of course its all shot on film using a assortment of vintage manual cameras, check out his handy work here

The internet is a strange strange place...

Yep that's right you heard me! TWO strange's! This is a photography blog filled with inspirational works by many amazing photographers... yet the most downloaded image on my blog EVER is the opening collage i put together for my other website Kill All Artists.... I wonder what anyone would want with the images above? The mind baffles!

Kate Graham...

I went to primary school with a Kate Graham so when i stumbled across a Kate Graham photography blog the only reason i clicked through to it was because I wondered if it might be the same Kate Graham... it wasn't but I'm sure glad i wondered such a minuscule possibility in the first place... This Kate Graham is a wonderful photographer and i really enjoy checking out her work, especially when she shoots film.

She has just had some shots developed from her Leica... my favorite is above but you can check out more here!

Travel Photography

So I'm always ranting about how film is so much better than digital because digital photos just sit in a back up hard drive that rarely sees the light of day... turns out film (well my film) is not much better... sure you go to all the effort to get your shots developed but putting them in albums is a whole other story... most of my rolls are in a plastic bag under the desk in the study! shame shame on me...

So it was with a sense of "times are gonna change" I need to get shit done that i bought 3 beautiful frames this week (black edging white mount) and I'm going to immortalise a triptych of my favorite travel photos from my last trip to Asia... turns out narrowing it down to just 3 ain't that easy...

Any suggestions? You can check out my travel gallery here.
