Shorpy shot of the day

I would like to kick off a new segment for this blog called the 'Shorpy shot of the day'! Shorpy is a online resource where (once you have signed up for a FREE account) you can upload old photos to share with its large web based community. Of particular interest to everyone are photos from the 1900's to 1940's and after spending a good few hours cruising through the site I am here to tell you there is plenty to see.

Two of my particular faves above are from the colorized section and are titled "Mr magazine, 1908' and 'Stars and stripes 1915' My my how times have changed! I hope you enjoy this little nod to the past as much as i have and stay tuned for regular Shorpy shots of the day... or if you simply cant wait head here to check the rest out yourself.

VITO

Almost forever ago I went camping down the south coast with the boyfriend... attached are a few of the happy snaps taken in one of my favorite south coast towns, Milton.

They were shot on my Voitlander VITO. If your thinking about investing in a VITO ( you should they take a amazing photo) and would like to check out some other results click here, here or here

Cross Processing

So i just had a few rolls of slide film cross processed... most of which came out red.... the lower the speed film the red'er they'll go apparently and I was shooting with 100 speed, silly me. Kodachrome 400 is the best for a even albeit slightly saturated effect ala these photos I took in Cambodia a few years ago... but stumbling across a roll is proving harder than finding a needle in a haystack.

A few of the results attached. Would love to hear about some of your cross processing endeavours... post stories and or links below.

Queenland floods...

Hello world. If you have not heard the majority of the east coast of Australia is currently under water. From northern Qld right down to Grafton in NSW, with Victoria on high alert we are one soggy nation at the moment. I know horrible natural disasters happen the world over every day.... and heres the skinny on what this one is doing to us.

19,700 properties are flooded, 2100 roads and streets are blocked, Brisbane CBD is currently 5.5m underwater surpassing the 1974 peak of 5.45m. 70,000people in southeast Queensland are without power. Numbers aside people have watched from the momentary safety of roofs as their possessions (and often loved ones) were swept away. 100's are reported missing and 15 have been confirmed dead.

If you would like to make a donation to the Red Cross who are currently assisting victims in the area please please, please click here

Olympus trip. Olympos turkey

So I shot 1 or two rolls on my new Olympus trip on a recent jaunt to Lord Howe Island over xmas. I am yet to get the rolls developed but I am really looking fwd / really scared about getting my first roll back... as its a new (as in really really old) camera - will it be filled with beautiful accidents such as darkened edges and saturated colors or will the whole roll be black?

I'll be sure to let you know next week, but if all goes well I'll be taking the Olympis trip to Turkey this year where Ill be stopping in the beautiful city of Olympos for a week... As you can see from the beautiful colors in the shots above, found here on flickr, its going to be hard to take a bad photo!

Nothing like bringing in the new year with a Leica Mini ii. Pretty snazzy for a 35mm. Check out more at Heirstoall here

You can check it out here, but can still pay my other site, kill all artists (home to the disposable camera project) a visit here. Something tells me i should look into consolodating!

Apologies

Hello dear friends! Apologies for the absolutely shit house effort with posting this month! Well... if I'm honest the last 3 months really, but that's how long I have been working on my new website for and I am sorry to say it has occupied every spare moment in recent months!

What is this new website I speak of you ask? Well it actually has nothing to do with photography for once - I have launched my own stationary and invitation design business called Daisy & Jack and I would very much like it if you would pay me a visit here

I will still of course be posting here at Take Nothing But Polaroids LOTS more in the new year (I promise) and I will continue to run Kill All Artists and its various film and photographic projects as well but it was time for a new challenge and invitation design is just too much gosh darn fun!

Its been a long 14 months...

But finally the disposable cameras I sent out into the world to 100 random strangers 14 long months ago are finally home (it was meant to take 5 weeks, 3 months at the most - haha)

I am so grateful to everyone who took part, donated your time, money and creativity to a little bit of fun that served to purpose other than to put a smile on your face and keep the love of film alive!

A little sneak peek from the red camera above! Click here for more information

Sleep easy...

We can all rest a little easier knowing that Kodak have no plans to be shutting down 35mm and 120 film production anytime soon! In fact they are, and I quote "doing extremely well... it almost feels that there is a very real resurgence for film.” Damn straight there is, although you'd never know it seeing as film is now impossible to buy at the chemist, supermarket not to mention your average corner store... The days of disposable cameras and 35mm film cartridges lining supermarket isles are all but over my friend, unless you have a camera store near by its all about ordering online. For those of you based in Australia this place is a great online resource for ordering film! But if you are a regular buyer of all things film perhaps chat to your local supermarket or chemist about getting those shelves re stocked! Who knows maybe they didnt get the memo about films so called 'resurgence' :)

Read more of the Kodak interview here. At the very least it will make you a little less panicked about films foreseeable future!

R.I.P A.I

Andy Irons "i surf because" short film from Billabong on Vimeo.

Ahhh this has nothing to do with film photography... but everything to do with it at the same time... What can I say, the dude inspired a lot of people... and inspiration is what its all about.

My thoughts are with his brother, (8 month pregnant) wife and family right now. Peace be with you man xo

Sir Ryan Tatar

I have blogged about a one Mr Ryan Tatar quite a lot over the years... he reads my blog... I read his... He was kind enough to donate his time and participate in my global Hey You! Say Cheese project and is just a wonderful photographer and all round nice guy.... His documentary style surf photographer was a big influence when it came to me deciding to cruise America, living in the back of a camper van for 3 months next year, a country, previously i had little desire to travel.

Its been a while since I posted some of his photos... so feast your eyes on the awesomeness above and be sure to click here if you'd like to see more

Meet Jack

Jack Tar takes awesome photos... if my Olympus trip shots come out half as good as his (above) i will be one happy kid! Check out more of his handy work here

Its time to take a trip

I own plenty of vintage cameras... Polaroid EE66's, EE44's, 600s, mini portraits and SX-70s, I own Eastman Kodak's, Lomo's, Diana's and Holga's not to mention a Pentax MZ50... but one camera I don't have and have always wanted - a Olympus Trip... Seems like every time I stumble across a amazing photo lately its taken on a Olympus trip.

I'm currently bidding on a few on Ebay so fingers crossed Ill be the proud owner of a new (and when i say new) I mean old camera soon :)
