Polaroid was in the 60's what Apple is to consumers today.. A must have brand, filled with charisma and constantly pushing new technologies.... It captivated the interest of a nation and with catchy ad spots like the one above, its easy to see why.

Live life like a Polaroid commercial I say.

Sorry for the curse words, but shit man It was the most fitting headline for this here post, Above is a screen grab from the place I get my Polaroid Film from, Just last Oct I was scoring triple packs of 600 Film for $75 bucks - at $25 a pack that was a pretty sweet deal. Then in January it went up to $34.95, sure that little rise (OK big rise, almost $10) stung, but not as much as logging on just now to find the price has gone up AGAIN to $39.95 for a single pack of 600 film!

Mother F people! That's $4.00 for every single polaroid we take! Any suggestions for a cheaper place post link a link below - If you dont have a cheaper option and you feel like you could cop the $40 a pack slap in the face the click here to make your purchase!

World Pinhole Day

April 24th is world pinhole day! Sure its no Xmas, or Easter but its a day dedicated to returning to the roots of photography – Pinhole!

As purveyors of analogue photography, I encourage you to take out your pinhole cameras – DIY or from the lomo shop – and start taking mind-blowing and dreamy shots through the tiny pinhole eye - Woo! Post the links to your results below I would love to see them!

Vintage Golden Half camera....

So i have a friend, lets call her bobo and like myself she has a penchant for vintage cameras. Seems when it comes to buying cameras we are both forever grappling with the concept of need Vs want... do we really need another vintage camera? NO! Do we really really want it? Yes... and I'm sorry, as in happy, to say that want usually trumps need.

Passion beats logic almost every time, and thank god it did for bobo on one such occasion not so long ago when she decided to purchase a dusty little 35mm camera only to find out later it was a half frame camera! How freakn fantastic is that! And here I am thinking that the golden half frame was some nifty new invention the Chinese whipped up to compete with the popularity of the lomo!

Half frames are amazing cameras, I have a Golden Half frame myself and its so small and light weight it travels with me everywhere I go.... but be warned people 36 exposures takes a lifetime to use as the half frame means you are getting 72 photos p/roll, its kind of a return to the good old days when Christmas, New Years and Easter holiday snaps would all be on the one roll of film and you'd have to wait until all the exposures were used up before you got a peek at your pictures....

I have recently started following a wonderful blog called Sea Layer... Its a fabulous place filled with medium format photos and today this one in particular caught my eye. Taken on a Diana camera its photos (and cameras) like this that make me very excited about the idea of driving across america - sooo many road signs to take photos of so little time!

Another collector at heart

Lisa Congdon collects all kinds of things, vintage pegs, milk bottle tops, pin cushions and Vintage medium format photos. She has committed to taking a photo a day of each of her collections for a year and posting it here on her blog, a little fucking nuts but her stash is amazing! I spent the better part of a hour going through almost every post, its a beautiful collection and I'm glad she has decided to share her treasures with the world.

Getting to know the new Polaroid film

So its fantastic that Polaroid film is back on the market,congrats again to the dudes at the impossible project... but dont be thinking you can just pick up where you left off with your new pack of SX-70... There are rules to be followed people.... and dont be thinking yeah yeah ill be carefull and go right ahead and ignore the below, be warned if you do your photos will not come out as you hoped.

1. Sit down in your favorite chair in your favorite room at ROOM TEMPERATURE (17-24°C / 63-75°F)
2. Put the PX 100 Film into your camera
3. Put the lighten/darken wheel to MIDDLE SETTING
4. Hold camera STABLE, especially at low light levels
5. Make the first MAGIC SHOT
6. (cover with your hand)
7. Develop the picture UPSIDE DOWN FOR 60 - 90 SECONDS
8. Take another deep breath, turn over, and inhale your FIRST PX 100 SHOT

I stumbled across this Polaroid here on my friend Mad's blog (a great place of inspiration in its own right)... "I think in photographs" - A phrase that rings true to the photographer in all of us.

Allow me to introduce you to my new website

Well If I'm being honest its not really new, Ive just deleted a few sections (Good bye prop hire I never got around to starting) and introduced a new one called Projects filled with ummm.... projects I have actually gotten around to following through.

Hey You Say Cheese has a new logo. Hey You! Goes Global is nearing a end with only the Yellow and Red cameras still to make their way home... so with in a few short weeks the site will be brimming with all new photos taken by strangers from around the world... excited? I am.

If you dig surfing, skating or photography or just don't mind dabbling in the odd bit of popular culture on the weekends you need to head here on Saturday.... I hear its a great place to take photos...

Proof of Life

After 7 long months the red camera, the last of 8 that were sent around the world for random strangers to take photos of has surfaced, the lovely Alex currently has it and is shooting up a storm in Ireland before sending it on to me here in Australia to get developed (Thanks for the photo above Alex, you made my day)

Hey You Say cheese is getting a new Home...

In preparation for the final cameras rolling in from my Hey You say Cheese goes global project I'm giving the website a bit of a spring clean, creating a new home for the Hey You Say Cheese Project and many more wonderfully strange projects to come... including something I'm a a bit excited about that involves teaching photography to kids somewhere in mexico.... stay tuned people.

5 times the feet

Its been a while since i posted a good old fashioned random look down... I like taking photos of what i see when i look down... a different perspective is a great perspective. This Polaroid was taken on a long weekend in June last year with 12 friends. Only 5 of them are pictured.

Blacklist
